Blaney Faces Challenge After Tire Failure at Kansas
Ryan Blaney will start from the rear of the field at Kansas Speedway following a tire failure during Saturday’s NASCAR Cup Series practice. The 2023 champion experienced a significant incident after blowing a right-rear tire, which led him to crash into the Turn 2 wall. Blaney had initially reported a left rear tire issue over the radio, but subsequent inspection confirmed the right rear as the culprit. He was checked and released from the infield care center without injuries.
“This is frustrating,” Blaney stated post-incident. “I hate that we crashed the race car, but we’ll analyze what went wrong and aim to make a strong comeback from the back of the pack.”
Entering the Kansas race, Blaney was already secured a spot in the Round of 8 thanks to his recent victory at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. His practice session was cut short after only four laps due to the crash.
Reflecting on the tire failure, Blaney remarked, “I didn’t have any warning signs before it went. It felt normal until it didn’t. Unfortunately, that’s the nature of these tire failures.”
Blaney remains optimistic about the race despite the setback, underscoring his determination to compete and utilize the team’s backup car effectively.
