Briscoe Prepares for Nail-Biting Charlotte Roval Playoff Showdown
Chase Briscoe enters the NASCAR Cup Series playoff elimination race at the Charlotte Roval, currently positioned above the cutline but with uncertainty looming. Despite a strong performance throughout the postseason, Briscoe, driver of the No. 19 car, acknowledges the challenges ahead.
“It’s tough because I feel like, from a performance standpoint, we’ve certainly been performing,” Briscoe remarked, noting that outside of a single off day in New Hampshire, his team has consistently secured stage points. With one victory, over 400 laps led, and finishes within the top 10 in all five postseason races, Briscoe stands fueled by solid numbers, but the playoff format remains unforgiving.
Currently, Briscoe holds a 21-point cushion above Joey Logano, the reigning champion, who teeters on the elimination line. Ross Chastain trails Logano, needing to close a 13-point gap to secure a spot in the next round.
“We’re really just racing the [No.] 22 and the [No.] 1,” Briscoe stated, underscoring the direct competition with Logano and Chastain. He noted that outrunning them in both stages and the race will be crucial for advancing, despite the complexities of the Roval layout.
Briscoe has only one top-10 finish in four previous starts at the Roval, a track notorious for its unpredictable nature, especially during critical playoff moments. His apprehension is palpable: “It is extremely hard to be near any cutline… You have to go get the stage points, and then you’re starting from the back,” he explained.
Expressing a preference for a more traditional racetrack for the cut race, Briscoe acknowledged the excitement the Roval brings, despite its potential for chaos. As he prepares to navigate the high-stakes environment, the focus remains on securing a spot in the Round of 8—a feat he has achieved once before in his postseason career.
