Briscoe Claims Pole for Coca-Cola 600
Chase Briscoe, driving the No. 19 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, secured the pole position for the Coca-Cola 600, marking his second pole of 2025 after previously achieving the same feat at the Daytona 500. His qualifying lap puts him at the front of a 40-car field for Sunday’s race.
"I felt okay kind of everywhere," Briscoe remarked after his qualifying run. "It wasn’t the most perfect lap, but it was good enough. Just super excited for the opportunity to lead the field to the green for 600 miles."
Briscoe becomes the tenth driver in NASCAR history to earn pole positions for both the Coca-Cola 600 and the Daytona 500 in the same season. Reflecting on this accomplishment, he stated, "It’s pretty wild. I never thought I would get to run a single Truck race, let alone lead the field to two crown jewel events."
Front Row Qualifiers
Kyle Larson, driving for Hendrick Motorsports, qualified second, narrowly missing the pole by just 0.020 seconds. Larson aims to achieve the rare "Double" on Sunday, starting 19th in the Indy 500 before joining the Charlotte race later in the day.
William Byron will start third, followed by Chris Buescher in fourth and A.J. Allmendinger in fifth. The top ten is rounded out by John Hunter Nemechek, Ty Gibbs, Noah Gragson, Alex Bowman, and Christopher Bell. Notably, Jimmie Johnson, a NASCAR legend with four Coca-Cola 600 victories, will celebrate his 700th career start from 17th position.
Challenges for Competitors
During qualifying, Carson Hocevar spun out exiting Turn 4 and will start at the back of the field, despite having shown promising speed in practice. Tyler Reddick also experienced difficulties with a brush against the wall. Ross Chastain, who crashed during practice due to a left-rear tire issue, did not qualify and will start last at 40th.
As anticipation builds for the Coca-Cola 600, teams will be strategizing intensely, aiming for success in what is often regarded as the most grueling race on the NASCAR schedule.
