Austin Cindric Makes Supercars Debut in Adelaide Finale
Austin Cindric is set to make his debut in the Supercars Championship this weekend at the Adelaide Grand Finale, driving the No. 5 Tickford Racing Mustang. This entry marks a significant milestone as Cindric is the first American to compete in a Supercars event since Alexander Rossi participated in the Bathurst 1000 in 2019.
Cindric, who concluded his NASCAR Cup Series season with Team Penske earlier this month, has spent recent days acclimating to the local time zone and familiarizing himself with the Gen3 Mustang. He conducted initial laps at Sandown and The Bend Motorsports Park and expressed that mastering the Adelaide circuit will be his main challenge, citing, “Learning the track is going to be my biggest challenge here.”
With a packed schedule including practice, qualifying, and three races, Cindric aims to complete all laps while respecting the championship implications of the event. “I’m certainly not going to insert myself in the way of it, that’s for sure,” he stated, acknowledging the importance of the title fight for other competitors.
Cindric articulated his goals succinctly: “I’d definitely say I’ve never learned the limits of the car…finding them without error is always the challenge.” His focus remains consistent as he steps into an environment where other drivers have extensive track experience.
As a wildcard entry, Cindric brings both competitive intent and a fan’s admiration for the series, reflecting, “I’m here just as much as a race fan… I’m here to race, too.” His participation is poised to add excitement to an already intense championship finale.
