Custer’s Crash Marks Tough Day at Michigan

In a dramatic turn during the NASCAR Cup Series FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway, Cole Custer’s race ended prematurely due to a multi-car incident. Driving the No. 41 Ford Mustang for the Haas Factory Team, Custer was involved in a collision initiated by Austin Cindric’s No. 2 Mustang, which sent Custer spinning off track.

The chain reaction also affected Daniel Suarez and Chase Briscoe, who both spun but continued racing, while Alex Bowman suffered a heavy impact with the wall. Custer later reflected on the incident, stating, "Once I got hit, you’re just hanging onto it… We all just kind of ran out of room."

Despite showing promise earlier in the season, Custer’s frustration was evident. "It’s really disappointing… We want to be on the up end of things with our team right now," he said, emphasizing the setback the crash caused. He further noted the rapid nature of the incident, indicating minimal time to react: "Not much… you kind of get hit in the left rear and then you’re just hanging on."

Both Bowman and Custer were evaluated and released from the infield care center, marking a concerning yet not critical aftermath to the wreck. As the season progresses, Custer and his team aim to regain momentum after this setback.
