Dale Earnhardt Jr. Steps in as Interim Crew Chief for Connor Zilisch at Pocono

Pocono Raceway, Pennsylvania — JR Motorsports has announced that Dale Earnhardt Jr. will serve as the interim crew chief for Connor Zilisch during this weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Pocono. This unexpected turn comes as Zilisch’s regular crew chief, Mardy Lindley, serves a one-race suspension after a loose lug nut violation following the Nashville event, which incurred a $10,000 fine.

This marks a historic moment, as it is the first time a member of the Earnhardt family has taken on a crew chief role at any of NASCAR’s three national series. Earnhardt Jr., a NASCAR Hall of Famer with an impressive pedigree, is anticipated to bring a wealth of experience to the pit box. He is the son of the legendary Dale Earnhardt Sr. and a two-time NXS champion himself, boasting 24 career victories in the series.

Zilisch, an 18-year-old talent currently signed with Trackhouse Racing, is secured in the playoffs after clinching a victory at Circuit of the Americas earlier this season.

As the race approaches, the pit strategy and decision-making will undoubtedly be under close scrutiny, with Earnhardt Jr. taking charge for the 88 Chevrolet, aiming to maximize Zilisch’s potential on the challenging Pocono layout.
