Chase Elliott Leads NASCAR Cup Series Point Standings, Eyes Playoff Points

Chase Elliott, driver for Hendrick Motorsports, currently holds the lead in the NASCAR Cup Series points standings as the regular season approaches its conclusion. While Elliott maintains a composed demeanor about his position, he acknowledges the importance of securing playoff points, particularly with 15 bonus points awarded to the regular season champion.

“We want to win those 15 points,” said Elliott, emphasizing the significance of additional points alongside his single win this season. “Getting three wins is a huge deal… We want to get the regular-season deal. We want it all like everybody does.”

Since clinching his first victory of the season at EchoPark Speedway in late June, Elliott has surged from fifth to first in the standings, bolstered by five top-10 finishes in the last eight races. His performance reflects the dominance of Hendrick Motorsports, which holds the top three positions in the standings and has led points in 19 of the season’s 21 races.

As of now, 12 drivers, including Elliott, have secured spots in the postseason. However, Elliott’s six playoff points place him behind elite contenders such as Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson, and Christopher Bell, who have amassed significant bonuses.

Elliott is cognizant of the pivotal role playoff points play in the postseason. Reflecting on past experiences, he stated, “It’s a lot easier when you have a lot in the bank… It’s nice to have something to fall back on.”

As the season concludes, strategy and performance will be critical for Elliott and his team as they aim to enhance their playoff standing.
