NASCAR Cup Series Practice Report: Ty Gibbs Tops Session at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
Ty Gibbs emerged as the fastest driver during a pivotal NASCAR Cup Series practice session at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, clocking a speed of 181.733 mph (29.714 seconds) over 36 laps. As the series gears up for the Round of 8, Gibbs’ performance positions him favorably heading into the postseason.
William Byron (P) demonstrated impressive long-run speed, registering the fastest lap among playoff drivers at 181.172 mph, and leading averages for the five, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30-lap segments. Chase Elliott (P) followed closely in third at 180.953 mph, while Denny Hamlin (P) and Bubba Wallace rounded out the top five at 180.741 mph and 180.560 mph, respectively. Tyler Reddick, Chase Briscoe (P), and Ross Chastain completed the top eight, with Chastain notably scraping the wall during his run.
Kyle Larson (P) placed ninth at 179.922 mph, and Christopher Bell (P), a two-time runner-up in Las Vegas playoffs, secured the tenth position at 179.874 mph. Notably, playoff contenders Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano finished outside the top ten, in 17th (179.104 mph) and 28th (178.094 mph), respectively. Logano is the defending champion at this venue.
A total of 38 teams are set to compete in the upcoming South Point 400, including non-chartered entries from JJ Yeley in the NY Racing Team and Katherine Legge with Live Fast Motorsports, alongside 36 chartered cars.
