NASCAR Cup Series: Riley Herbst Gears Up for Final Stretch at Las Vegas

In the aftermath of Sunday’s race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, rookie driver Riley Herbst is poised to tackle the final leg of his inaugural NASCAR Cup Series season. Approaching his 32nd race, Herbst, a Las Vegas native, is eager to return to the familiar confines of the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“Yeah, I can’t wait to get back home,” said Herbst. “It’ll be fun. We’re learning each week and getting better. Las Vegas is special—getting my first NASCAR win there was major for me. We’ll take the challenge head-on and see what we’ve got.”

Herbst expressed appreciation for the diverse array of tracks the Cup Series presents, highlighting favorites like Richmond and Texas. “NASCAR does a really good job of mixing it all up,” he added.

Reflecting on his rookie season, Herbst emphasized the steep learning curve faced by new drivers. “It’s a whole new beast,” he remarked. “Every lap, every race—it’s about improving. It’s been a great year; I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

Discussing the transition from the Xfinity Series to the Cup Series, he said, “It’s a ginormous step… The competition is fierce; anyone from 1st to 40th can win. That’s the biggest difference.”

Among his standout moments, Herbst highlighted participating in the Daytona 500 and racing at his home track. “Those are moments I’ll never forget. This is the highest level of motorsports in America,” he stated.

Teammates Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace have been vital to his adaptation, providing invaluable insights and support. “They have so much experience; I’m learning as much as I can from them,” Herbst noted.

Looking ahead, he is excited about the upcoming races at Talladega, Martinsville, and Phoenix, aiming to secure consistent top-20 finishes to close the season on a high note. “We want to up our consistency,” he affirmed. “This jump has been tough, but we’re taking it one step at a time. The team is awesome, always pushing to improve.”

As Herbst prepares for this pivotal stretch, his focus remains on seizing opportunities and building momentum in his rookie Cup Series campaign.
