NASCAR Cup Race in Mexico: Rain Renders Chaos

In a dramatic turn during the NASCAR Cup race at Hermanos Rodríguez Autodromo, rain caused significant chaos on lap six, leading to a multi-car pileup that impacted several contenders. Kyle Busch, piloting the No. 8 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, found himself in 12th position when he lost control entering Turn 1, hydroplaning into fellow drivers Justin Haley, Kyle Larson, and A.J. Allmendinger, resulting in extensive damage to all involved.

Busch’s car suffered too much damage to continue, finishing in 39th place, while Larson had to make lengthy repairs in the garage. The incident underscored the treachery of the conditions; while many drivers had switched to wet-weather tires, the track’s slick state posed an additional risk.

"I went down into (Turn) 11 and got on the brakes pretty hard, and everything was fine… but when I hit (Turn) 1, it was just on ice,” Busch commented post-race. “I had to turn this thing around backwards because I’m going to nail some people. I hate it for all those that were involved in my mishap.”

As the race continued, Shane van Gisbergen emerged victorious, earning a playoff spot with his strong performance. Busch’s misfortune now places him 50 points below the playoff cut line as the series heads to Pocono Raceway. The challenges posed by the wet conditions were emphasized by Busch’s frustration, underscoring the risks associated with racing at high speeds in adverse weather.
