Legacy Motor Club and Rick Ware Racing Settle Charter Dispute

In a pivotal resolution for the NASCAR community, Legacy Motor Club (LMC) and Rick Ware Racing (RWR) have finalized a deal for the sale of a charter that had previously sparked legal disputes between the two entities. The agreement was reached following discussions involving Jimmie Johnson and Cal Wells.

Rick Ware confirmed the settlement, stating, “I believe we landed in a mutually beneficial place for both teams, and the result will be a clear path forward for us all. I look forward to putting all of our focus on finishing the 2025 season strong.”

Despite the resolution, the terms of the sale remain confidential. LMC’s pursuit of an additional charter aimed at expanding its operations to three cars initially faltered earlier this season, resulting in a breach of contract lawsuit against RWR. Ware contended that the agreement pertained to the 2027 season, in contrast to LMC’s claims regarding 2026.

Following LMC’s lawsuit, Ware countered with his own suit, leading to a scheduled trial in January 2026 concerning the specifics of the charter sale.

Jimmie Johnson expressed relief at the outcome, emphasizing the importance of collaboration: “I truly respect the effort put forth by Robby Benton and Rick Ware to reach a settlement so we may all focus on our business operations and future goals. I’m glad this is behind us and we can all move forward in unison.”

Currently, Ware owns two charters: one is being utilized for the No. 51 entry driven by Cody Ware, while the other is leased to RFK Racing. This settlement not only resolves ongoing litigation but also paves the way for strategic advancements for both organizations in NASCAR’s competitive landscape.
