NASCAR Announces Unique San Diego Event on Military Base

NASCAR has officially unveiled its new racing event, "Project: Race the Base," set to take place at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego. The announcement was made through a press release and a promotional video highlighting the unique connection to the military.

The video, available on NASCAR’s official social media and YouTube channels, showcases drivers participating in Navy SEAL-inspired missions. Chase Elliott leads the featured drivers, who are all assigned military-style nicknames. Among them are Joey “Zamboni” Logano, Carson “Hot Shot” Hocevar, Noah “Rizz” Gragson, Chase “Hoosier” Briscoe, and William “Flame” Byron.

The promotional piece effectively builds excitement for what will be NASCAR’s first event on an active military base and the Cup Series’ second street course race. No official course layout has been released; it is expected to be disclosed in the fall.

The San Diego event will mark a significant shift from recent years, commemorating the end of the series in Chicago over the past three cycles. As the culmination of a weekend featuring competitions across all three NASCAR series, this new initiative underscores the organization’s commitment to innovation and honoring military service.
