Logano Triumphs at Texas in Overtime Chaos

FORT WORTH, TX – Joey Logano clinched victory on Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway in an overtime finale during the Wurth 400, marking his first win and top-five finish of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season. Logano, starting from 27th, outmaneuvered Ross Chastain and Team Penske teammate Ryan Blaney for the win, having cleared Blaney on the final restart.

This victory comes on the heels of Logano’s disqualification at Talladega Superspeedway for a missing bolt, which had denied him a top-five finish just a week prior.

“The sport changes so quickly. I’m proud of the team and finally getting AAA Insurance into victory lane after 13 years,” Logano stated after the race. “It’s going to be a fun night.”

Logano worked his way through the field, notably passing Michael McDowell with four laps to go in regulation, despite a near-incident down the backstretch. After an eventual multi-car crash involving McDowell brought out the 12th caution, the race concluded in exhilarating fashion.

Kyle Larson, who led a race-high 90 laps and won Stage 2, finished fourth after struggling with track position, especially during critical restarts. Erik Jones, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Austin Dillon, and John Hunter Nemechek rounded out the top eight, with Christopher Bell and Daniel Suarez completing the top ten.

The race featured 12 caution flags and 20 lead changes among 13 drivers, with major incidents impacting key contenders. Kyle Busch spun from third position while Carson Hocevar, the polesitter, succumbed to a multi-car crash as the race approached its conclusion.

“We had a tough pit stall situation, but the pit crew did a great job in managing that,” Logano reflected on his journey through the pack. “The car was fast, and after a poor qualifying, we just kept grinding it out.”

Logano becomes the seventh different winner this season, highlighting the competitive landscape of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series.
