NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2026 Inductees Announced
NASCAR has unveiled the inductees for the Hall of Fame Class of 2026, honoring Kurt Busch, Harry Gant, and Ray Hendrick, alongside Humpy Wheeler, who will receive the Landmark Award for Outstanding Contributions to NASCAR. This year marks the 16th induction class since the Hall’s inception in 2010.
The selection was made during a closed panel meeting at the Charlotte Convention Center, with representatives from various sectors of the NASCAR community, including drivers, team owners, and a nationwide fan vote. A total of 49 votes were cast, overseen by the accounting firm EY.
Both Busch and Gant received 61% of the votes on the Modern Era ballot, with Jeff Burton finishing third. In the Pioneer category, Hendrick secured 31% of the votes, placing him ahead of Bob Welborn. The fan vote mirrored these results, recognizing Hendrick in the Pioneer category while Busch and Gant led the Modern Era.
The Modern Era nominees included a strong field of ten, featuring notable names such as Greg Biffle and Jeff Burton. The Pioneer ballot consisted of five nominees, including Hendrick, while Landmark Award contenders included figures such as Lesa France Kennedy and Dr. Joseph Mattioli.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for January 23, 2026, at the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Charlotte Convention Center in North Carolina.
Class of 2026 Inductees
Kurt Busch
Busch’s NASCAR career began in the Truck Series in 2000, quickly elevating him to the Cup Series where he marked significant milestones, including securing the 2004 NASCAR Cup Series Championship. He has amassed 34 Cup Series victories, highlighted by his win at the 2017 Daytona 500.
Harry Gant
Dubbed “Mr. September,” Gant is celebrated for his prowess in the premier series and Xfinity Series, with notable victories including the Southern 500 in both 1984 and 1991. Gant scored a total of 18 premier series wins and 21 Xfinity wins, consistently finishing in the top five in the standings throughout the 1980s.
Ray Hendrick
Known as the original “Mr. Modified,” Hendrick achieved over 700 victories in modified and late model sportsman racing from 1950 to 1988. He claimed five track championships at South Boston Speedway and was recognized as one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers.
Landmark Award Recipient
Humpy Wheeler
Renowned for his innovative contributions, Wheeler transformed Charlotte Motor Speedway during his 33-year tenure as President and General Manager. His initiatives, including the construction of the Turn 4 grandstands and the introduction of night racing, significantly enhanced the fan experience and broadened NASCAR’s appeal.
The announcements highlight the continued evolution of NASCAR, honoring the contributions of its past while looking ahead to a promising future.
