NASCAR to Host Race at Coronado Naval Base in Summer 2026
NASCAR has announced plans to stage a race at the Coronado Naval Base in San Diego during the summer of 2026, according to event concepts set for formal release this week.
Sources indicate that discussions regarding this venue have been ongoing, with initial reports from The Athletic in June confirming NASCAR’s negotiations with the city. Subsequent updates by RACER highlighted the potential for this event, first noted on July 8, with a public announcement expected on Wednesday.
This new race will fill a slot left vacant by the Chicago street course, which confirmed its exit from the 2026 schedule after three years of operation. Notably, NASCAR has not held a points-paying event in Southern California since 2023 at the Fontana venue, which has since ceased operations following plans to transition the former Auto Club Speedway into a short track, a project yet to be completed.
The Coronado race represents a pivotal return to the Southern California market, emphasizing NASCAR’s efforts to expand its footprint in key locations. Further details will be revealed during the upcoming formal announcement.
