Buescher Penalized Following Technical Infraction at Kansas Speedway

Chris Buescher’s promising outing at Kansas Speedway concluded with an eighth-place finish, but the post-race scrutiny brought about significant repercussions for his No. 17 RFK Racing Ford Mustang. The vehicle, flagged for an inspection at the NASCAR Research and Development Center, was found in violation of NASCAR’s vehicle assembly and front bumper cover regulations.

According to NASCAR’s ruling, Buescher’s team exceeded permissible modifications to the front bumper cover, specifically violating sections 14.1.C and 14.5.4.G, which stipulate that bumpers may be reinforced only within a two-inch border around the foam. Motorsport.com analyst Bozi Tatarevic indicated the team likely overstepped this boundary.

As a result, Buescher’s team faces a $75,000 fine, and crew chief Scott Graves has been suspended for the next two races, including the upcoming All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro and the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. In addition, Buescher has been penalized 60 driver and owner points, plunging his playoff standing from 12th to 24th and shifting him from 33 points above the playoff cut line to 27 points below.

Despite being winless after 12 races this season, Buescher remains determined as the playoff picture tightens. The loss of points further complicates his path, as he has yet to secure any playoff points in the current season.

This incident underscores the ongoing scrutiny within NASCAR, as teams balance competitiveness with compliance to ever-evolving technical regulations.
