NASCAR Championship Weekend: Future Venues Under Consideration

NASCAR has confirmed that Homestead-Miami Speedway will host its championship weekend in November 2026, marking the venue’s return to the season finale for the first time since 2019. The 1.5-mile oval previously served as the concluding race from 2002 to 2019 before Phoenix Raceway took over in 2020.

NASCAR Executive Vice President Ben Kennedy emphasized that several factors will influence the selection of tracks moving forward. “As you think about a championship race, ideally, you want a warm climate location,” Kennedy noted. The organization is considering various venues, indicating an openness to options both within their own properties and beyond, especially given their strong relationship with Speedway Motorsports.

While Kennedy acknowledged the importance of traditional NASCAR settings—intermediate tracks, mile tracks, and short tracks—he ruled out superspeedways, stating that these venues do not align with the expected championship atmosphere. “We want to ensure our championship drivers contend for victory with significant strategy at play,” he added.

NASCAR plans to invest in upgrades for Homestead-Miami Speedway to enhance the facility’s competitive quality ahead of its championship return. The venue will join Phoenix in the championship rotation, with both racetracks sharing NASCAR ownership.

As the organization refines its approach to championship events, updates regarding potential new venues will emerge, reflecting the evolving landscape of the NASCAR schedule.
