NASCAR Cup Series Update: Chase Elliott Takes Points Lead

Chase Elliott has ascended to the top of the NASCAR Cup Series championship standings, bolstered by a strong performance at Dover Motor Speedway, where he led 238 laps and finished sixth. This comes at the expense of his Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron, who led the points for 17 of the first 21 races but finished 31st due to a late caution.

Elliott now overtakes Byron as the leading driver in the standings, setting him up favorably for the postseason, particularly as the regular-season champion earns an additional 15 playoff points. Currently, Elliott has accumulated six playoff points, underlining his potential to capitalize on this advantage.

The championship battle is tightly contested, with six drivers within 100 points of each other. Elliott leads a formidable Hendrick Motorsports contingent, followed by drivers from Joe Gibbs Racing and 23XI Racing.

Current Standings:

  1. Chase Elliott

  3. Kyle Larson – 38 points behind
  4. Denny Hamlin – 39 points behind
  5. Tyler Reddick – 62 points behind
  6. Christopher Bell – 67 points behind
