NASCAR to Hold Historic Street Race at Naval Base Coronado in 2026
SAN DIEGO, CA – NASCAR has officially announced it will stage a three-series street race at Naval Base Coronado from June 19 to 21, 2026, marking a historic first for the organization on an active military installation. This event coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States Navy, emphasizing the partnership between the two American institutions.
The event will include all three of NASCAR’s national series: the Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and Craftsman Truck Series. It will also serve as the capstone of a five-race stretch within Prime Video’s broadcasting window for the Cup Series in 2026. Coverage will diverge across networks; while the Xfinity Series will be aired on CW, the Craftsman Truck Series will feature on Fox Sports.
Ben Kennedy, NASCAR’s Executive Vice President, expressed pride in this collaboration: “We are honored for NASCAR to join the celebration… to honor the Navy’s history and the men and women who serve.” The track layout is yet to be revealed.
This event marks NASCAR’s return to Southern California since its last points-paying race in the region in 2023. Previously, the only visit this year was to Sonoma Raceway, while the non-points Clash exhibition took place in 2024 at the L.A. Coliseum before relocating to North Carolina.
Naval Base Coronado hosts nine Navy installations and plays a crucial role in supporting U.S. military operations. Secretary of the Navy John C. Phelan commented, “This collaboration reflects the operational intensity and unity of purpose that define both the United States Navy and NASCAR.”
Amy Lupo, who joined NASCAR in 2021 and has experience in event management from her tenure at ESPN, will lead the organizers as president of the San Diego event. Her contributions are expected to enhance the execution of this landmark race.
As the motorsports community anticipates this unique integration of racing and military heritage, further announcements regarding the course layout will provide additional insights into this unprecedented event.
