Daniel Suarez Claims Dramatic Victory at The Chilango 150 in Mexico

In a stunning display of resilience and skill, Daniel Suarez clinched victory at The Chilango 150 on Saturday, racing from last to first in a backup car, following a crash during qualifying. The win marked a pivotal moment in Suarez’s career, not only as a NASCAR Xfinity Series champion but also as a proud representative of his hometown, Monterrey.

Suarez, driving the No. 9 JR Motorsports Chevrolet, expressed his elation after the race, stating, “It’s everything I was looking for, just a special day.” He commanded the race, leading a total of 19 laps and securing victory with a narrow margin of 0.598 seconds over Taylor Gray.

The race saw an eventful restart with just three laps remaining, where Suarez and Gray battled closely before the former managed to pull ahead. Light contact among competitors early on resulted in a multi-car pile-up, significantly altering the race dynamics. Notably, polesitter Connor Zilisch led 17 laps before a series of unfortunate incidents left him struggling, although he ultimately recovered to finish fifth.

Austin Hill from Richard Childress Racing took third, while fourth place went to Kaulig Racing’s Christian Eckes. Zilisch showcased remarkable driving skills, moving from 28th to finish in the top five, demonstrating both tenacity and talent.

Post-race, Zilisch remarked, “Proud of my team for their effort,” acknowledging the setback while commending Suarez’s achievement in front of a home crowd. The race featured seven lead changes among six drivers, adding to the excitement and competitiveness on the track.

Championship leader Justin Allgaier encountered difficulties, ultimately finishing 34th and dropping 15 laps behind the winner, yet he maintained a strong lead in the standings with a 54-point cushion.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series now shifts focus to Pocono Raceway for the upcoming Explore the Pocono Mountains 250, scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
