Van Gisbergen Extends Contract with Trackhouse Racing Amid Strong NASCAR Debut
Shane van Gisbergen has signed a multiyear contract extension with Trackhouse Racing, solidifying his position in the NASCAR Cup Series after an impressive start to his career. The 36-year-old New Zealander, a former three-time champion in Australia’s Supercars series, made a notable entry into NASCAR in 2023 with a victory in his Cup Series debut at the Chicago street course. To date, he has secured four wins this season, leading the Rookie of the Year standings against Riley Herbst.
“I feel like Trackhouse Racing is my home,” van Gisbergen stated, reflecting on the support he received since his initial one-race deal. He acknowledged team owner Justin Marks’ pivotal role in his transition: “Everything that has happened since then is because of the chance Justin took on me.”
As the NASCAR playoffs approach, van Gisbergen will make his postseason debut, standing out as a rookie who has quickly adapted to the unique challenges of the series. With four wins in 35 starts, he is on a promising trajectory, demonstrating skills atypical for a newcomer adjusting to this discipline.
Marks heralded van Gisbergen’s achievements, remarking, “What we are asking him to do carries a high degree of difficulty. He’s moved to the other side of the world, learned a new form of racing, and at times dominated the competition. He’s one of the greatest.”
Van Gisbergen’s deal follows Trackhouse Racing’s collaboration with Kaulig Racing, which saw him compete full-time in the Xfinity Series in 2024 before advancing to the Cup Series. His performance underscores both his talent and the team’s commitment to nurturing emerging stars in motorsports.
