Stewart Friesen Injured in Modified Crash, Surgery Required

Autodrome Drummond, Quebec – Stewart Friesen, a competitor in the Craftsman Truck Series, sustained serious injuries during a crash in the Super DIRTcar Series on Monday night. The incident occurred at Autodrome Drummond when Friesen’s car became airborne after hitting a dirt cushion, landing atop the wall before being struck by another vehicle.

Immediately following the crash, series officials confirmed that Friesen was alert and communicating with safety personnel before being transported to a local medical facility.

On Tuesday, his wife, Jessica Friesen, provided an update via the team’s social media, detailing that CT scans ruled out head, neck, and spine injuries. However, Friesen suffered an unstable open-book pelvic fracture with a large hematoma, along with a fractured right leg. Both injuries necessitate surgical intervention, and he has since been transferred to a larger hospital.

"His vitals are stable," Jessica Friesen noted. "After receiving additional pain medication, he is in better spirits and resting."

Friesen’s recent racing performance includes a third-place finish at the Craftsman Truck Series event in Indianapolis, though his team faced disqualification due to a height violation—a decision they plan to appeal. Friesen had also recently secured his 52nd Super DIRTcar Series victory at Weedsport Speedway after winning his heat race.

Friesen has participated in the Craftsman Truck Series since 2016, becoming a full-time competitor for Halmar Friesen Racing in 2018, with four career wins, the latest achieved in June at Michigan International Speedway.

Teams and fans alike have expressed their support as updates on his condition are anticipated.
