Kaulig Racing’s Ty Dillon Advances in NASCAR Challenge
Sonoma, CA – In a stunning upset, Ty Dillon of Kaulig Racing, seeded No. 32, advanced to the semi-finals of NASCAR’s in-season challenge. The bracket-style tournament offers a $1 million prize, and Dillon’s journey has become one of the most surprising narratives this season.
Dillon first bested Denny Hamlin at Atlanta after the latter’s early exit and then eliminated Brad Keselowski in Chicago due to a crash. Facing Alex Bowman of Hendrick Motorsports at Sonoma, Dillon engaged in a hard-fought final lap battle. Despite being initially passed by Bowman, Dillon made a decisive move in the hairpin, bumping Bowman while they were caught in traffic. He ultimately edged ahead moments before crossing the finish line, securing his place among the final four drivers in the competition.
Post-race, Dillon and Bowman shared a brief exchange and handshake, reflecting camaraderie amid their competitive clash.
“It was a rough couple of laps there," Dillon commented. "Alex and I race really clean… I had to push hard for the million dollars. It’s been an incredible run for our No. 10 team. We’re not done yet—we’ll put pressure on the guys at Dover.”
Dillon will now face John-Hunter Nemechek of Legacy Motor Club, who also emerged as a surprise contender. The other semi-final matchup features Tyler Reddick against Ty Gibbs, promising an exciting showdown between the two remaining Toyota drivers.
The semi-finals at Dover will take place soon, where all eyes will be on Dillon as he seeks to continue his unexpected journey in the tournament.
