Wallace’s Remarkable Comeback at Iowa Corn 350

Iowa Speedway, July 30, 2023 – In an extraordinary display of perseverance, Bubba Wallace of 23XI Racing staged a remarkable comeback to secure a sixth-place finish in the Iowa Corn 350. Early in the final stage, Wallace found himself two laps down and positioned 36th, but a series of timely cautions turned the tide for the No. 23 team.

Entering the race fresh off a victory at the Brickyard 400, Wallace qualified 15th but faced significant challenges during the race. A broken right-rear toe link and a poorly timed caution left him struggling, seemingly out of contention with just under 100 laps remaining.

However, a sequence of yellow flags revitalized Wallace’s chances. He marched into the free pass position, gaining a lap back before a side window issue on lap 281 prompted another caution, allowing him to regain another lap.

On the final restart in 32nd position, Wallace’s car showed notable pace. Over the course of the remaining laps, he climbed 26 positions, finishing strong in sixth. This result marks his third consecutive top-10 finish, covering challenging venues at Dover, Indianapolis, and now Iowa.

“We had our damages, had our issues, and just really fought hard to get our Altroo Camry back in the top 10,” Wallace remarked about the team’s resilient effort.

With his playoff spot secured by the win at Indianapolis, Wallace views the remaining regular season races as a chance to experiment and enhance performance. “We’ve got to expose our weaknesses,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of identifying areas for improvement.

As the playoffs loom, Wallace and his team look poised to refine their strategy for an intense championship push.
