Suarez Races in Historic NASCAR Return to Mexico City

Mexico City, Mexico — Daniel Suarez made history this weekend by competing in the NASCAR Cup Series at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, marking the series’ first race in Mexico City and its first international points event since 1958. This event embodies a significant milestone not only for Suarez but also for NASCAR as it strengthens its footprint in Latin America.

“This event… hasn’t even started yet, and I’ve been living a dream,” Suarez stated, reflecting on the overwhelming support from fans and media leading up to the race. He is pulling double duty this weekend, also participating in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race with JR Motorsports.

Suarez, a native of Mexico, has a storied history at this track, having secured three of his ten victories in the NASCAR Mexico Series here before making the leap to American racing. After stints with Joe Gibbs Racing and winning the Xfinity Series championship, he has evolved into a two-time Cup Series winner with Trackhouse Racing.

The last NASCAR event in Mexico City took place in 2008, and since then, Suarez has been a pivotal figure in promoting the sport’s return. “I’m just enjoying it,” he said, amid concerns from others about the intensity of his commitments.

Entering the Cup race, Suarez is currently positioned 28th in the standings. A victory on Sunday would secure his spot in the playoffs, adding further significance to this landmark event.

As Suarez remarked, “We’re making history together… when these two countries work together, the sky is the limit.” The excitement surrounding this event illustrates not only the potential for NASCAR’s growth in Mexico but also the broader implications for international motorsports collaboration.
