Daniel Suarez Joins Spire Motorsports for 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Season
Concord, NC – Daniel Suarez will transition to Spire Motorsports to drive the No. 7 Chevrolet in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series, marking a pivotal shift for both the driver and the team. This announcement comes as Suarez parts ways with Trackhouse Racing after a tumultuous season, while Spire evaluates its ongoing performance struggles with Justin Haley.
Team co-owner Jeff Dickerson emphasized the importance of stability as they aim to enhance competitiveness. “Desperation is a big thing. If he can be himself and steady, he’s capable of winning races and consistently running in the top five,” said Dickerson. He highlighted the goal of having all three cars—Suarez, Michael McDowell, and Carson Hocevar—perform at a high level simultaneously.
Suarez’s arrival follows a series of personnel changes within Spire. Last year’s ride swap for Haley with Corey LaJoie, the departure of crew chief Rodney Childers, and the addition of McDowell and crew chief Travis Peterson are part of the team’s effort to evolve. Dickerson believes Suarez embodies the drive needed for the No. 7 team’s turnaround. “He’s a fighter and maximizes his equipment without making big mistakes,” he noted.
On securing the position, Suarez expressed optimism for the future, stating, “Right now, I believe it is the fastest-growing team in NASCAR.” He acknowledged the strong foundation being built by Spire and expressed excitement for this new chapter.
While a crew chief has yet to be confirmed for Suarez, Dickerson mentioned that Ryan Sparks, the current competition director, is performing dual roles, which he aims to reassess for future stability.
Ultimately, both Suarez and Spire Motorsports are intent on overcoming recent setbacks. “We need each other,” concluded Dickerson, emphasizing their mutual desire for redemption and proving critics wrong.
