William Byron Extends Contract with Hendrick Motorsports Through 2029
William Byron has secured a contract extension with Hendrick Motorsports (HMS), ensuring his tenure with the team through the 2029 season. The 27-year-old driver, currently ranked second in the NASCAR Cup Series standings, is a two-time Daytona 500 champion, making him the youngest multi-time winner in the history of the prestigious race, surpassing a record previously held by Jeff Gordon.
Since making his Cup Series debut in 2018, Byron has earned 14 victories and has consistently demonstrated his prowess by qualifying for the NASCAR Cup playoffs for six consecutive years, reaching the Championship 4 in both 2023 and 2024. Although he has yet to claim the championship title, his highest finishes stand at third place in two seasons.
Reflecting on the extension, Byron stated, "We’ve built something special with the No. 24 team. I’m thankful for the opportunity to continue working with amazing people at Hendrick Motorsports who believe in me, especially Mr. and Mrs. Hendrick. We’re excited to go after bigger goals together."
Rick Hendrick, team owner, lauded Byron’s talents, emphasizing his combination of natural ability and unparalleled work ethic. "William is the real deal. He’s a person of high character and embraces his role as a leader," Hendrick remarked, expressing confidence in Byron’s potential for further achievements.
Hendrick Motorsports remains the most successful team in NASCAR history, currently fielding a competitive lineup that includes drivers Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, and Alex Bowman alongside Byron in the No. 24 Chevrolet.
