Rovera Set to Make Historic Debut in FIA WEC Rookie Test
Bahrain – Alessio Rovera, Ferrari’s factory driver, will pilot the AF Corse #83 Ferrari 499P Hypercar during this Sunday’s FIA WEC Rookie Test at Bahrain International Circuit. This marks Rovera’s inaugural official outing in the 499P after serving as the team’s Reserve Driver and contributing to its development program.
At 30 years old, Rovera is currently second in the LMGT3 Drivers’ Championship, trailing the championship-leading #92 Manthey 1st Phorm Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) by just 11 points with his co-drivers François Heriau and Simon Mann. His season has also included competition in the European and Asian Le Mans Series, the GT World Challenge Europe, and selected rounds of the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup.
Rovera expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming test, stating, “I’m happy to have the opportunity to put more miles on the 499P for the first time in an official context such as the FIA WEC Rookie Test. I’m looking forward to working with the team at AF Corse to gather useful data and information.”
Joining him in the testing efforts will be teammates Nicola Lacorte and Matias Zagazeta, who will be evaluating the team’s LMGT3 machine. Rovera’s recent contract extension with Ferrari underscores his growing role within the organization as they prepare for the future.
