Daytona International Speedway hosted the recent IMSA Sanctioned Test, where the latest evolution of the Porsche 911 GT3 R made its debut. The 992.2 generation of this iconic racer has been introduced by teams including Manthey, Wright Motorsports, and newcomers RS1, all seeking to capitalize on the car’s enhanced performance.
Key Technical Features
The revised GT3 R boasts several aerodynamic advancements aimed at improving track performance. Notable modifications include:
- Front Louvres: These are integrated into the front wheel arches to enhance cooling.
- Four-Millimeter Gurney Flap: Positioned on the swan-neck wing, this feature amplifies downforce, adding versatility to the car’s setup.
Additionally, updated front and rear suspension kinematics have been implemented to boost stability and predictability, especially during braking.
Extensive Pre-Season Testing
Before arriving at Daytona, the new GT3 R underwent rigorous testing at various renowned tracks, including Weissach, Nürburgring, and Spa-Francorchamps. A prototype version achieved overall victory at the 24H Series 12 Hours of Spa, further signifying its competitive edge.
