Mattia Drudi Named Official Reserve Driver for Aston Martin’s Valkyrie Programme
Aston Martin Racing has appointed Mattia Drudi as the official reserve driver for its Valkyrie programme, which encompasses both Hypercar and GTP categories. Drudi has established himself with the British brand since 2024, currently competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in the LMGT3 category for The Heart of Racing and in the GT World Challenge Europe with Comtoyou Racing.
The Italian driver boasts significant achievements with Aston Martin, including a win at the 2024 24 Hours of Spa and securing pole position in LMGT3 at the previous year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. His responsibilities for 2024 will see him available at all FIA WEC events, providing support as needed.
Drudi expressed gratitude for the opportunity: “I’m really grateful to The Heart of Racing and Aston Martin to give me more involvement in the Valkyrie programme. I enjoyed driving the car at the WEC Rookie test in Bahrain and look forward to getting more driving time to prepare for the season.”
Ian James, team principal of Aston Martin THOR, emphasized Drudi’s importance to the programme: “We are pleased to name Mattia as Official Reserve Driver for the Valkyrie programme. His results with Vantage speak for themselves, and he’s become a vital part of our GT programme. His performance in Bahrain was extremely impressive, and we have confidence in his abilities should the need arise.”
Drudi will make his debut in this role at the 6 Hours of Imola, the season opener for the FIA WEC.
