Ferrari Clinches Hypercar Championship in FIA WEC
Ferrari has marked a significant milestone in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) by securing both the manufacturers’ and drivers’ titles, achieving what many believe establishes them as the new frontrunner in the premier Hypercar class. This victory, cultivated over a meticulous strategy and consistent performances, is Ferrari’s first top-class championship in endurance racing since 1972.
The #51 crew, comprised of Antonio Giovinazzi, Alessandro Pier Guidi, and James Calado, emerged as the season’s standout performers, winning multiple races and finishing on the podium in crucial events at Le Mans and Qatar. With this reliability and competitive edge, they remained the only team to secure multiple wins, with their season punctuated by only two finishes outside the top 10.
“After Le Mans, we made a goal in Ferrari to try to win the title,” Giovinazzi stated following the Bahrain finale. “For me, it’s really emotional… We managed to execute a fantastic season together.”
Ferrari’s 499P program demonstrated impressive operational advancements, allowing the team to optimize its race strategies effectively throughout the season. Their campaign was bolstered by a strong start, winning three consecutive races and building a formidable points lead, which ultimately withstood pressure from competitors like Porsche and Cadillac.
In the final race in Bahrain, while Toyota staged a remarkable comeback to finish second, Ferrari maintained its composure to secure the championship. Acknowledging the role of Balance of Performance in their success, the Ferrari team nonetheless emphasized their relentless efforts to improve their performance capabilities throughout the season.
Giuliano Salvi, Ferrari’s race and test team manager, expressed pride in the team’s achievement. “It’s easy for me to remember because it’s the year I was born, so I’ve never seen this kind of championship,” he remarked, emphasizing the emotional weight of reclaiming the title after decades.
As Ferrari revels in its victory, the competitive landscape remains fierce, with rivals including an agile Toyota expected to make significant strides in the upcoming 2026 season. However, Ferrari’s current triumph secures their place in motorsports history as a new benchmark in endurance racing.
