2025 Spa 24 Hours: Ginetta Launches G56 GT2 and Ferrari Unveils 296 GT3 Evo
Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium – During the 2025 edition of the prestigious Spa 24 Hours, Ginetta unveiled its latest racing model, the G56 GT2, complementing the event’s lineage of showcasing cutting-edge motorsport engineering. The G56 GT2 is based on Ginetta’s longstanding G56 platform and features significant advancements tailored for its new classification.
Equipped with a 6.3-litre V8 engine, the G56 GT2 uses supercharging technology, an Xtrac transaxle LMP gearbox, and Sachs triple-plate clutch. The car’s suspension incorporates Ohlins double wishbones, while braking performance is supported by Alcon GT Endurance brakes. This setup positions the G56 GT2 as a serious contender for the GT2 category, aimed primarily at gentleman drivers seeking high-performance racing experiences.
Mike Simpson, Ginetta’s CEO and former factory driver, explained the decision to develop the GT2 model: "We wanted a slippery, high-powered car. After a feasibility study with the G56 GTX, we recognized the need for enhancements in aerodynamics and safety for our new offering."
Clive Seddon, Ginetta’s technical director, elaborated on the evolution from GT4 to GTX, and now to GT2: "We were heavy, underpowered, and draggy with the GTX. The GT2 weighs just over 1,200 kg and will be tuned to approximately 650 horsepower for balance of performance adjustments." He noted key aerodynamic improvements, including a redesigned front end for increased airflow and driver comfort features such as enhanced air-conditioning.
The G56 GT2 is designed for accessibility, targeting drivers who prefer to enjoy competitive racing without the intensive commitment of a professional program. Simpson mentioned plans for an official debut during the GT World Challenge Sprint Cup at Valencia in mid-September, aiming to bring three to five units to the track by 2026.
The unveiling at Spa, alongside Ferrari’s introduction of the 296 GT3 Evo, emphasizes the continued relevance of endurance racing in showcasing manufacturer innovations and competitive spirit within the motorsports arena.
