GT World Challenge Asia Season Finale Qualifying Results: Deng and Ojeda Claim Pole Positions
Beijing, China – The season finale of the GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS kicks off with significant excitement as Deng Yi and Jayden Ojeda secured pole positions for their respective races at the Beijing Street Circuit. Due to repair delays on Friday, both races are scheduled for Sunday.
Deng, representing Harmony, dominated Qualifying 1 (Q1), outperforming teammate Zhang Yaqi by 0.09 seconds, clocking a fast lap of 1:45.571. Despite a ten-place grid penalty for championship leader Bob Yuan and his co-driver Leo Ye, Yuan managed to set the second-fastest time in the session, maintaining competitive pace and limiting the damage from the penalty.
“It’s going to be an essential first stint in Race 1,” commented Yuan, whose performance still positions him as a key contender despite the setback.
In Qualifying 2 (Q2), Ojeda showcased exceptional skill, executing a last-minute lap of 1:43.336, which was nearly four-tenths faster than Dorian Boccolacci, who was poised for pole until Ojeda’s late charge. The competition in Q2 highlighted the intensity of the field, with five Pro drivers exchanging the lead in the closing minutes.
The starting grid for Race 1 features notable competitors, with Yuan and Cheng Congfu, both title contenders, positioned fifth and sixth respectively. Absolute Corse’s Huang Ruohan led the Silver-Am category with a commendable third overall finish in Q1, while AMAC’s Ben Porter topped the Am class in 13th.
The races, part of the 2025 season, will commence at 08:45 and 15:05 local time (GMT +8) on Sunday, both broadcast live on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel.
