Christensen in Talks to Remain with Porsche Past 2025
Danish driver Michael Christensen is in “constructive discussions” with Porsche to extend his tenure as a factory driver into 2026, as confirmed by the manufacturer. Christensen, who has been a key figure in Porsche’s Hypercar efforts during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, was notably absent from the Porsche Penske Motorsport lineup since the 100th WEC race at Fuji last September.
During the recent Japanese event, the #5 Porsche 963 was piloted solely by Julien Andlauer and Mathieu Jaminet, with Christensen participating in IMSA testing instead. For the Bahrain finale, Laurin Heinrich will make his top-class debut, stepping in for Christensen.
Speculation abounded regarding Christensen’s future with the brand after he was sidelined. However, a Porsche spokesperson clarified the situation, stating, “Michael has used all his experience to push the LMDh programme forward,” while emphasizing ongoing adjustments to the driver lineup to align with the program’s future.
The team expressed confidence in continuing collaboration with Christensen, reinforcing the positive trajectory of their relationship.
This development comes amid news that Jaminet will depart the Porsche roster at the end of the season, following Porsche’s decision to scale back its factory LMDh program to focus solely on IMSA GTP for 2026.
