Mustang Cup Australia Set to Launch with Exciting Prize for Top Drivers
In a landmark announcement, the inaugural Mustang Cup Australia will award its champion with a test drive in a Ford Mustang Gen3 Supercar, courtesy of Triple Eight Race Engineering. This opportunity is extended to the winner of the Dark Horse category, with the test taking place at Queensland Raceway.
Launched in June, Mustang Cup Australia builds on the success of the North American Mustang series, positioning itself as the second regional one-make cup for the Mustang Dark Horse R. The event underscores the growing prominence of Ford in Australian motorsport, as Triple Eight—14-time Supercars champions—prepare to shift from Chevrolet to Ford machinery by 2026 and assume the role of Ford’s homologation team.
Triple Eight Team Principal Jamie Whincup expressed enthusiasm for the new series: “The Mustang Cup introduces more opportunities for young drivers… it has the potential to unlock the next star of our sport.” He emphasized the importance of nurturing talent, noting that the cup could reveal driver qualities necessary for success at elite levels.
Liam Curkpatrick, series organizer, echoed these sentiments, stating, “The winner of Mustang Cup Australia testing a Triple Eight Supercar… truly is the ultimate prize.”
The inaugural season kicks off at Phillip Island from March 27-29, 2026, as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries, which will also feature the GT World Challenge Australia and GT4 Australia. This initiative is poised to redefine pathways for emerging talent in Australian motorsport.
