Hocevar Faces Fallout Amid Controversy Ahead of Pocono Race
Carson Hocevar continues to be the center of attention in the NASCAR garage, but not necessarily for positive reasons. In a media availability session before Saturday’s race at Pocono Raceway, Hocevar was predominantly questioned about his escalating feud with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and his disparaging comments regarding Mexico City, the site of last week’s inaugural race.
Hocevar’s contention with Stenhouse flared up again during the Mexico City event, where Hocevar spun Stenhouse for the second time in three weeks, despite not being on the lead lap. Following the incident, Stenhouse expressed his anger, promising retribution: “I’m going to beat your a** when we get back to the States,” he stated.
“I hope he’s artistic about it and doesn’t hit anything,” Hocevar remarked, acknowledging the possibility of retaliation. He reflected on the situation, saying, “It would be hypocritical for me to lose my mind and be frustrated. I’ve been a fan for a long time; you’ve seen these stories before.”
Despite the tension, Hocevar remains focused on racing. He admitted to feeling frustrated about revisiting the issue with Stenhouse, especially since they had previously discussed their Nashville Superspeedway collision earlier in the month.
Adding to Hocevar’s troubles, Spire Motorsports imposed a $50,000 fine and mandated cultural sensitivity training following his critical remarks about Mexico City. Hocevar acknowledged the situation, stating, “I put myself out there a lot more… I didn’t do my own homework and voice my own opinion. I didn’t give it a fair shot.”
As the NASCAR circuit heads to Pocono, Hocevar’s ability to navigate both on-track competition and personal rivalries will be put to the test.
