Atlanta Cup Race Report: Stage 1 Overview
Atlanta, GA – During Stage 1 of the NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta, inclement weather prompted NASCAR to issue a caution at Lap 37. Light rain in the vicinity resulted in a brief delay as the drivers were instructed to stay in their cars.
At the time of the caution, Joey Logano was the dominant leader, having led every lap from his pole position, with teammate Austin Cindric in second place. The top five was rounded out by Josh Berry in third, Brad Keselowski in fourth, and William Byron in fifth. The complete top ten included Carson Hocevar, Kyle Larson, Ryan Preece, Christopher Bell, and Ryan Blaney.
Logano expressed some concerns about vehicle handling despite his lead: “It can always be better. We feel like it’s got speed, no doubt about that – just trying to control the race where I can and keep that clean air.”
As the race was temporarily halted, all but one of the 40 starters remained on the lead lap, with David Starr set to receive the free pass once the race resumed. The event thus far has seen no incidents on track.
NASCAR indicated that the delay is anticipated to be brief as teams await conditions to improve.
