Friesen Out for Season; Honeycutt to Drive No. 52 Toyota
Stewart Friesen will miss the remainder of the Craftsman Truck Series season following injuries sustained in a recent Super DIRTcar Series crash at Autodrome Drummond in Canada. Kaden Honeycutt has been named as his replacement, set to take over the No. 52 Toyota starting at Richmond Raceway on August 15.
Honeycutt, recently released from Niece Motorsports, expressed enthusiasm about stepping into a competitive vehicle. "It’s an honor to be able to fill in for Stewart for the rest of the season and help give his team a chance at the owner’s championship," he stated. Currently, he is 73 points above the postseason cutline with two races remaining in the regular season.
Friesen has secured a postseason berth thanks to a win at Michigan International Speedway in June. However, no waiver request has yet been submitted to NASCAR, which could impact his standing. Should he apply for a playoff waiver and receive approval, he would remain in contention, finishing 10th in standings despite his absence. If not, the next closest driver may take his playoff position.
Friesen noted, "While I continue to recover, it was important for us to put someone in our truck that can help us compete at the highest level. I know Kaden will deliver strong performance in our truck and allow us to continue to run for the owner’s championship."
