Mueller Joins JDC-Miller Motorsports for IMSA Finale
Nico Mueller will compete in the final two races of the IMSA season for JDC-Miller Motorsports following his commitments in the FIA Formula E World Championship. Excited about his return, Mueller previously drove the No. 85 “Banana Boat” Porsche 963 at Sebring, describing the experience as positive and making him feel at home with the team.
“I think our outing in Sebring had been a very positive one… I really enjoyed the 963 in general,” Mueller stated. He replaces Gianmaria Bruni, who parted ways with JDC-Miller after the Road America race.
Mueller, who previously raced in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with Porsche Penske Motorsports and was a reserve driver for the Le Mans 24 Hours, is looking forward to his debut at Road Atlanta. “It’s one of the coolest races to do in the U.S. It’s high up my bucket list,” he expressed.
During initial practice sessions, Mueller felt good in the car, noting improvements in handling and tire management. “The focus is maybe a bit less on an overall result than just progress,” he explained, highlighting the importance of teamwork and continuous improvement.
Mueller praised JDC-Miller’s commitment to bridging the gap with factory teams, emphasizing the team’s passion and professionalism. He is open to more opportunities with the squad in the future, recognizing their potential in the competitive GTP landscape.
Looking beyond this season, Mueller remains linked to the Porsche factory Formula E team, potentially filling the vacancy left by departing driver Antonio Felix da Costa. “At some point, I want to be racing in IMSA regularly… there’s many races I want to fight for an overall victory,” he concluded. Discussions regarding his future plans with Porsche are expected to occur soon.
