Grégoire Saucy to Drive McLaren MCL-HY in 2027 FIA WEC Season
McLaren Racing has confirmed that Grégoire Saucy will pilot the McLaren MCL-HY Hypercar in the upcoming 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). This announcement comes on the heels of Saucy’s remarkable performance in the 2026 European Le Mans Series, where he clinched the LMP2 Drivers’ Championship with United Autosports. His standout results included a dominant victory at Circuit Paul Ricard and securing pole position at the Portimão season finale.
Saucy has played a crucial role in the development of the MCL-HY, actively participating in nearly all testing sessions, including both its initial shakedown at Varano and its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. His extensive experience with the car positions him favorably as it prepares for its competitive debut at the Qatar 1812KM, scheduled from March 25-27, 2026.
“I am over the moon to be given this opportunity,” Saucy expressed. “Working with this team has been fantastic, and I can’t wait to continue this journey.”
The Swiss driver, a 2021 Formula Regional European Championship champion, previously competed in FIA WEC aboard a McLaren in the 2024 and 2025 seasons. His promotion from the McLaren Driver Development Programme reflects the organization’s commitment to cultivating emerging talent.
James Barclay, Team Principal of the McLaren Hypercar Team, praised Saucy’s methodical approach and consistent performance throughout the MCL-HY testing. “He has earned this opportunity, and we are excited to see him take the next step in his career with McLaren,” Barclay stated.
Saucy’s inclusion marks him as the fifth confirmed driver for the McLaren MCL-HY team, joining Mikkel Jensen, Laurens Vanthoor, Alex Lynn, and Leonardo Fornaroli, with a sixth driver yet to be announced.
As the team gears up for its inaugural season, industry attention will focus on how Saucy and his teammates perform against a strong field in the 2027 FIA WEC.
