IMSA Prepares for Throwback Weekend at Laguna Seca
Monterey, CA – Team DSC has arrived in Northern California for the IMSA race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, coinciding with a series of events celebrating motorsport heritage.
While only a few teams will showcase throwback liveries this weekend, notable entries include Porsche Penske Motorsport, which unveiled its Apple Computer tribute liveries for its 963s after a recent wrap. These vehicles exemplify the aesthetic of classic racing with a vibrant rainbow design. In addition, the 718 Cayman Safety Car has also been adorned in the iconic Apple livery.
Joining the festivities are replicas of the legendary 1980 Apple Porsche 935 K3 and a retro-styled Porsche 911 GT2 RS, reinforcing the event’s celebratory theme. Paul Miller Racing, meanwhile, has introduced a throwback livery inspired by the 1975 BMW 3.0 CSL.
Corvette Racing will pay homage to the C5-R era with liveries reminiscent of its early 2000s campaigns, alongside the unique “Sketchy” design from AO Racing that honors the familiar Rexy theme.
In the Michelin Pilot Challenge, 45 cars will compete in an anticipated two-hour race, marking Laguna Seca’s last appearance on the calendar for the foreseeable future. Strong contenders include win leaders from Winward Racing, with a notable lead in the GS standings, and Bryan Herta Autosport in TCR, continuing its pursuit of the championship.
In addition to competitive racing, drivers’ partners participated in a charity event, “WAGs on the Runway,” benefiting the Monterey County SPCA, further intertwining motorsports with community engagement.
