Triple Eight Race Engineering to Compete in 2027 Bathurst 12 Hour with Ford Mustang GT3 Evo
Triple Eight Race Engineering, the 2017 Bathurst 12 Hour winners, will return to the prestigious endurance race in 2027, fielding a Ford Mustang GT3 Evo in the GT3 Pro category. This marks the team’s first appearance at Bathurst since 2024, where they campaigned Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVOs.
The team’s shift to Ford aligns with its recent transition in the Supercars Championship, making the Mustang GT3 Evo a fitting choice for the upcoming event scheduled for February 12-14, 2026, and serving as the opening round of the 2027 Intercontinental GT Challenge.
Driver Lineup
Current Supercars drivers Broc Feeney and Will Brown will pilot the Mustang, with a third driver yet to be announced. Feeney, who achieved a sixth-place finish in 2024, expressed excitement about returning, noting his previous experience with the Mustang GT3 earlier this year. “The 12 Hour is one of my favourite races every year… I was stoked to be going back for another crack especially with Triple Eight,” Feeney stated.
Brown, a two-time Invitational class winner, seeks his first overall podium after two consecutive fourth-place finishes. “Racing at Bathurst is always exciting,” he said. “Now to do it with Triple Eight and in a Mustang, that’s really exciting!”
Technical Insights
The Triple Eight Mustang GT3 Evo will incorporate the new Evo package introduced at the beginning of the current season, differentiating it from the previous variant raced by HRT earlier this year. This adaptation is expected to enhance the car’s performance at the Mountain.
The upcoming race also reflects the strategic evolution within Australian motorsports, showcasing the ongoing rivalry among manufacturers and the continual push for competitive excellence in endurance racing.
