NASCAR Cup Series: Kyle Larson Secures Kansas Pole Position
Kansas City, KS – In a dramatic qualifying session at Kansas Speedway, Kyle Larson edged out Chris Buescher to claim the pole position for the NASCAR Cup Series race. Larson, driving for Hendrick Motorsports, clocked in at 29.391 seconds, marking his 22nd career pole and his first at Kansas.
“It’s pretty ironic to have us both on the front row after our close finish a year ago,” Larson remarked. He expressed pride in finally securing the pole at this venue, noting ongoing improvements in car performance and tire management since last season. Larson emphasized, "I think it’s going to be a fast-paced race… Just try to execute on pit road and give ourselves a shot late in the race like we did last year."
Buescher, who initially held the pole position until the final qualifying runs, finished just 0.056 seconds behind Larson. “We could have manufactured a better story if we tried,” he stated. “It was a really awesome lap for this Ford Mustang. I’m proud of this group… Missed it by that much, but we’re in a good spot for the race.”
Christopher Bell led the Toyota contingent in third, with Tyler Reddick and Joey Logano rounding out the top five. The remainder of the top ten included Ty Gibbs, William Byron, Daniel Suarez, Chase Elliott, and Ryan Blaney.
However, qualifying was not without incidents. Josh Berry and Kyle Busch both found the wall during their runs, with Berry qualifying last at 38th and Busch at 35th. Notably, several drivers faced tire failures during practice due to low air pressures, but this issue did not affect performance during qualifying.
As teams prepare for the race, key names starting deeper in the field include Denny Hamlin (14th), Bubba Wallace (15th), and Brad Keselowski (36th).
The race promises to deliver high stakes and intense competition as the drivers seek to continue their momentum at the 1.5-mile oval.
