Alpine Formula 1 Team Appoints Steve Nielsen as Managing Director
Alpine F1 Team has officially announced the appointment of Steve Nielsen as their new Managing Director, effective September 1. Nielsen, a seasoned figure in motorsport with extensive experience across various teams including Renault, Benetton, and Ferrari, was selected following recommendations from team advisor Flavio Briatore, who deemed him the right candidate to replace Oliver Oakes.
Nielsen, 61, previously served as Renault’s Sporting Director during its championship-winning seasons in 2005 and 2006 with Fernando Alonso. His career also spans roles at Lotus, Tyrrell, Honda, Arrows, Caterham, Toro Rosso, and Williams, with recent contributions to the FIA and FOM.
In addition to Nielsen’s appointment, Alpine has made significant hires to bolster their technical team. Kris Midgley has returned from Ferrari to take on the role of Head of Aerodynamic Development, bringing experience from his previous tenure at Enstone from 2007 to 2013. Furthermore, Guy Martin, formerly the Head of Sponsorships Europe at Visa, joins Alpine as their new Global Marketing Director.
These strategic changes come as the Alpine team aims to enhance performance and competitiveness in the Formula 1 landscape.
