Alpine Formula 1 Team Appoints Steve Nielsen as Managing Director
The Alpine Formula 1 team has finalized the appointment of Steve Nielsen as managing director, effective September 1. This decision, supported by Alpine advisor Flavio Briatore, aims to bolster the team’s leadership after Oliver Oakes’ departure.
Nielsen, 61, has a storied career in motorsports, previously serving as Renault’s sporting director during its championship-winning years in 2005 and 2006 with Fernando Alonso. His extensive experience spans roles with notable teams, including Team Lotus, Tyrrell, Honda, and Williams, alongside recent positions with the FIA and FOM.
In addition to Nielsen’s signing, Alpine has reinforced its technical team. Kris Midgley, formerly a principal aerodynamicist at Ferrari, will return to Enstone as Head of Aerodynamic Development. Also joining the organization is Guy Martin, who has been appointed as Global Marketing Director, bringing experience from his role at Visa.
These strategic hires signal Alpine’s commitment to enhancing both performance and market presence as they look to improve their standings in the competitive F1 landscape.
