Cadillac F1 Targets Experienced Driver for 2026 Entry
Cadillac Racing’s CEO, Dan Towriss, recently shared insights on the team’s strategy for their 2026 Formula 1 debut, emphasizing the importance of securing an experienced driver. The squad, led by team principal Graeme Lowdon, is currently evaluating potential candidates, including Valtteri Bottas, whose recent social media post has sparked speculation about his interest in a seat with the new team.
Towriss stated, “It’s crucial to have an experienced driver for our first year,” underlining the team’s focus on building a strong foundation in their inaugural season. He added that discussions are ongoing, including meetings held discreetly across the UK.
With impressive current talent and up-and-coming drivers in mind, Towriss indicated, "We’re making sure to take our time and do our diligence." While Bottas, currently a Mercedes reserve driver, is considered an attractive option, no contracts have yet been finalized. Towriss recognized Bottas as a "very talented driver," calling attention to the opportunities that lie ahead.
Regarding potential driver sources, Towriss confirmed that the team would also explore candidates from other series, such as the World Endurance Championship and IndyCar, stating, “We have great young drivers in those series, and we’ll look at all of those.”
Cadillac is making significant strides in preparation for 2026, with Towriss noting, “The project is going great… it’s early mornings and late nights, but we’re really happy with where we’re at.” He expressed confidence in Cadillac’s entrance into F1, highlighting the blend of excitement and responsibility tied to participating in the sport’s pinnacle, any technological advancements it entails, and the team’s heritage as an iconic American brand.
As the team progresses, they remain committed to identifying the right mix of experience and talent to ensure a competitive debut in Formula 1.
