Sainz Secures P6 in Miami After Resetting Focus
Carlos Sainz managed to secure a sixth-place grid position for the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, credits a strategic 20-minute nap for regaining mental clarity following a challenging weekend marred by operational and driving errors.
Despite a disappointing performance in the sprint qualifying, where Sainz was eliminated in the second segment after damaging his car against the wall at Turn 13, he rebounded with a strong qualifying session. "We managed to press the reset button and showed the potential we had in the previous sessions," Sainz commented, reflecting on the importance of resetting after a tough sprint.
Sainz emphasized the need for Williams to refocus after a series of mistakes that led to a less than optimal performance throughout the weekend. “I kept spiraling thinking about all the things that we’ve been doing wrong,” he said. “I took a 20-minute nap and came back with a different mentality.”
Notably, Sainz’s lap was only three-tenths off pole position, demonstrating the potential of the Williams FW47. His teammate, Alex Albon, finished just behind him, a tenth adrift, after receiving only a reprimand for a pitlane incident during Q1.
Looking ahead, Sainz expressed optimism about the team’s setup and performance. "To be three tenths off pole we must be doing things well this weekend," he stated. "It seems this track suits our car quite nicely."
