Jak Crawford Confirmed as Aston Martin’s Third Driver for 2026 Season
Aston Martin has officially announced Jak Crawford as their third driver for the 2026 Formula 1 season. The 20-year-old American, currently competing in Formula 2 and sitting second in the drivers’ championship, will assume the role of reserve driver at all races next year, following his graduation from F2.
Crawford made his FP1 debut with Aston Martin during the recent Mexican Grand Prix, showcasing his potential as a key asset to the team. He has been part of Aston Martin’s driver development program since 2024, gaining valuable experience with F1 machinery.
Team principal Andy Cowell praised Crawford’s progression, stating, “Over the past two years, he has shown his value as a key member of our driver squad and built up a valuable bank of experience and test mileage.” Cowell noted Crawford’s exemplary simulator performance at the AMR Technology Campus and expressed excitement about his continued development.
Crawford highlighted the significance of this opportunity, saying, “I’m incredibly proud to be confirmed as the third driver for 2026. It’s a huge moment in my journey.” He emphasized his commitment to supporting the team and enhancing his skills, stating he has gained extensive insight from the F1 environment.
While no American drivers are expected to compete in F1 in 2026, Crawford’s position will maintain his active ties to the sport. He indicated the decision to remain with Aston Martin was straightforward, affirming, “This is the right place for me in 2026 as I transition from junior racing to a true professional career.”
Looking ahead, Crawford could potentially participate in another FP1 session during the final race in Abu Dhabi, pending the team’s announcement regarding their rookie outing plans.
