Jak Crawford to Make F1 Debut in FP1 at Mexico City Grand Prix
Aston Martin has confirmed that Jak Crawford will make his Formula 1 practice debut during the FP1 session at the upcoming Mexico City Grand Prix. The 20-year-old American, who joined the team after leaving the Red Bull junior program, has garnered attention for his impressive simulator performance and competitive season in Formula 2.
Team principal Andy Cowell highlighted Crawford’s contributions to the development of the AMR25 and AMR26, stating, “Jak has shown real maturity and provided strong technical feedback throughout the year. These sessions are crucial for developing young talent.”
Crawford expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, stating, “I’m thrilled to drive the AMR25 next week in Mexico. After working closely with the team all year, this is an exciting next step.”
This appearance marks Crawford as the first American driver to participate in an official F1 session since Logan Sargeant at the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix. As part of F1 regulations, teams must field a rookie driver on four occasions throughout the season; Crawford’s outing in Mexico is the first of his planned appearances, with potential for a second at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
In the current calendar context, Crawford is in Austin, Texas, supporting the Aston Martin team at the United States Grand Prix, although the Sprint weekend format limits rookie practice opportunities this event.
