Doohan Expresses Frustration Following Sprint Qualifying Exit in Miami
Miami, FL – Jack Doohan’s disappointment was palpable after being eliminated in the first segment of Sprint qualifying at the Miami Grand Prix. The Alpine driver criticized the team’s strategy, highlighting a crucial communication breakdown that hindered his performance.
Immediately after his exit, Doohan vented his frustration over team radio, calling the situation "unacceptable." He was held up in the pit lane while teammate Pierre Gasly was released prematurely, preventing Doohan from completing his final timed lap. “If you’re going to send him [Gasly] before me, you have to make sure he’s ready,” he stated, underscoring the impact on his qualifying effort.
Reflecting on the incident later, Doohan noted, “It all comes down to the last flying lap… I ended up getting blocked on my way out of the pit lane, which was a mess up because it was from the other car.” He expressed confidence that he had the potential for a significantly better time had he not been obstructed.
Despite the setback, Doohan recognized the opportunity presented by the Sprint format. “Just try to move forward as much as possible,” he said, indicating readiness to leverage the Sprint race as a chance to secure critical points and gain insights for the main event.
The team principal, Oliver Oakes, reiterated Doohan’s position in the car for the upcoming Imola race, emphasizing that performance evaluations are ongoing. With another qualifying opportunity looming ahead, all eyes will be on Doohan’s ability to redeem himself in the Sprint and set the stage for a stronger showing in the main race.
